Progress Report 2014

Project Redsand would like to thank the Work Team for their sterling efforts at the Fort.
A group of 10 professionals make up the Work Team, most being members of Underground Kent www.undergroundkent.co.uk with some serving in the British Army. Special thanks to Steve Groves, Barry Stewart, David Foulkes and the crew for making this happen.

Tasks now completed include the refurbishment of the docking stage fenders at the landing platform. This is extremely difficult work which depends on the state of the tide, prevailing weather and with a limited time window.

The team are also “shot blasting” the interior of G1 Tower paying careful attention not to damage any historic details. The interior is being re-painted with marine grade coatings donated by Jotun Paints.

Refurbishment of the original wartime 1 ton hoist is in progress. This will enable quick transfer of supplies from the X-Pilot service vessel.

Over the next few months the much needed refurbishment of the bathroom and toilet facilities will be carried out as well as the installation of new windows, made to the original design. This will vastly improve creature comforts for people working at the Towers.

Thanks to JOTUN PAINTS for supporting Project Redsand with a donation of marine quality coatings. Jotun Paints will be the main supplier of coatings for the overall refurbishment.www.jotun.com

The Trustees of Project Redsand are pleased to announce new support provided by the WATERMAN GROUP, Heritage Division. The services offered will include structural surveys, development planning and design for the interiors of the Towers and consultancy to assist with Heritage Lottery Funding applications. The Waterman Group have an impressive portfolio of achievements in the Heritage sector, please see Watermangroup Brochure
